  74. That's about it, very small test for c't (only two pages, no screen shot).

  76. In the May issue of c't, a card using the INTEL 8xxxxx graphics controller
  77. and 1MB memory, is tested, HOT STUFF !!. Claimed to sell with monochrome
  78. 19" monitor for the 1660 x 1200 mode for 5500 DM. The board even
  79. has a socket for the MC68881, so that you don't have to loose your
  80. coprocessor.

  98. When doing anonymous FTP to dsrgsun.ces.cwru.edu, I can't get any
  99. response to the ``dir'' or ``ls -l'' commands. FTP opens an
  100. ASCII mode connection, waits, and reports that the transmission
  101. is terminated; no data is written to the screen.
  102.  
  103. The reason I'm posting here is that the problem may be dependent
  104. on my site (diku.dk, Denmark), and I'd like to know if any others
  105. have the same problem.

  107. The problem is really bad when the README file is not updated,
  108. and you can't even see the date of any files that may be new and
  109. interesting..... .

  154. You can use the .data files pacakaged with Mac sounds directly on the
  155. ST.  You don't need to do any conversion.  Just take the .data file,
  156. get it onto your ST, then try it out with play.prg (posted to
  157. comp.binaries.atari.st recently) to get the playback rate right.  You
  158. can then use the sound with the Digital Keyclick, Beep, and Digivec
  159. programs recently uploaded to terminator (soon to appear in
  160. comp.binaries.atari.st).

  162. Many of the sounds in the terminator archive are actually Mac samples.
  163. Please upload any interesting sounds you find to
  164.         terminator:atari/music/samples
  165. so everyone can try them out...

  186. I just wanted to say that I think that good indexing will be
  187. crucial to its usefulness.  I can imagine stuff going in but
  188. never coming back out because users can't find what they're
  189. looking for--then it would be no better than the net now.

  191. I suggest that the manager of the archive will have to read
  192. each submission (I doubt there'd be more than one or two per day),
  193. anticipate its usefulness, and assign appropriate
  194. keywords.  (This would be important and take some skill.)
  195. The new article number (or whatever naming scheme is used) and
  196. the keywords for that article can then be added together on one line
  197. to a global index file.  Users can `ftp` the index file and then do a
  198. `grep '(key1)(key2)(key3)' index` kinda command to get just the
  199. files they want.  E.g., `grep '(hirez)(vdi)' index | grep -n '(window)'`
  200. would list all the files related to vdi calls on monochrome systems
  201. which are not related to using windows.  Okay, so it's not a very
  202. practical example, but you get the idea of the flexability and power
  203. once the indexing is done and the keywords are made available.
  204. Regularity of the index would be crucial, so using the supplied
  205. keywords would be unreliable.

  207. It doesn't have to be just source code either.  I've seen some
  208. awfully useful little chunks of text floating by here that I was
  209. sure I'd want later, but knew I'd never be able to find again
  210. even if I tried to archive them.

  212. Of course, a server should be available to do the `grep` locally
  213. and return the results to those who only have mail capability.
